Guide Ring

The medium pressure guide ring is installed in large steam turbines. It can have a diameter of up to 2400 mm. Before 1995, it was welded together from individual blades or cast segments.

The first medium pressure guide ring that we manufactured using our own process was for the nuclear power plant “Almarez” south of Madrid, Spain. We spark-eroded it from one forged ring.
While at that time it was made as a cylindrically shaped blade, today 3D sections are almost exclusively used.

The largest guide ring ever manufactured is “Okiluto”, a nuclear power plant in Finland, with an output of approx. 1760 MW.
SM-Weber received a pioneer award, because we made the largest MP guide ring that had until then ever been manufactured.
